If you are not sure if scuba diving is for you, arrange a Try Dive on a Thursday evening. You will spend about 30 minutes with a qualified instructor to give you an experience of breathing underwater using scuba kit. This will involve:
Meet/greet and tour of the Morris Centre
Introduction to the instructor who will talk you through what you will do
Putting on the scuba kit and getting you comfortable
Carefully supervised swimming underwater
If time allows, pictures and videos of the session for you to keep
All you need is swimming kit, a towel and a T shirt as the jackets can mark your shoulders. We charge £10 for a Try Dive, refunded off your membership when you join. Please contact us to arrange a Try Dive.
All training is done by members of the branch who have passed BSAC instructors courses. We don’t have fixed course dates, contact us to see when the next training will start. The entry level qualification Ocean Diver is made up of:
6 theory lectures
4 pool training lessons
4 lessons in open water (see Dive Sites for details)
A multiple choice exam
Qualified Ocean Divers can dive to 20m (under the supervision of more qualified divers) and can dive around the world as it is internationally recognised. Lots of further training available – speak to our instructors or see the BSAC website.
We welcome divers who already have certifications, even from other training agencies(eg PADI. SAA). The BSAC crossover system will match your qualification to the nearest BSAC equivalent so you don’t have to start at the beginning.
We can offer refresher training to members to bring you up to speed with new techniques and equipment. Come and speak to us to see what we can offer.
